The Washton Group is a specialized private practice in Princeton NJ offering individually-tailored treatments for substance use and a variety of mental health issues. As psychologists, we are in a unique position to provide integrated treatment to produce optimal results while paying careful attention to individual differences.
The Washton Group is dedicated to providing engaging personalized treatments that motivate and empower people to make positive changes and acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to sustain and deepen those changes over the long term. Our specialized services can complement treatments already being provided by other caregivers or serve as a stand-alone comprehensive treatment. We welcome opportunities to work in parallel with psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and other practitioners in the community to help their private patients overcome roadblocks to change caused by alcohol and other substance use and to accelerate their therapeutic progress.
Our services include change-focused individual and group psychotherapy as well as a unique Alcohol Moderation Program for non-alcoholic problem drinkers who want to reduce or eliminate the negative consequences of their alcohol consumption and improve their overall health without giving up drinking completely. We also provide abstinence-based relapse prevention groups for individuals who want to completely stop using alcohol or drugs, remain abstinent, and improve their coping skills to resist the gravitational forces that have repeatedly pulled them back into substance use.
Individualized, boutique services
The Washton Group offers individually tailored alternatives to standard addiction treatment programs and “one size fits all” approaches. We provide customized treatment, not one size fits all. Whereas AA can be extraordinarily helpful for some people, it’s not for everyone and not everyone who develops an alcohol or drug problem is by definition an “alcoholic” or “addict”. Because substance use problems come in a wide variety of forms and the people who develop these problems are not all the same, treatment must be individually tailored in order to be optimally effective.
We do not label our clients or pressure them to set unrealistic goals or accept more intensive treatment than they are ready to embrace. We work with clients whose substance use issues range from problematic use to full-blown addiction whether they are using alcohol, cocaine, marijuana, prescription opioids, or other drugs. We work with individuals in all stages of readiness to change ranging from those who are still questioning whether their substance use is really a “problem” to those who are ready to take action and want our help in deciding what the best path forward might be.
